Why Is My Microphone Blocked in Calilio?

If callers cannot hear you, your microphone is likely blocked before the audio reaches Calilio. Common causes include your browser's microphone permission, your operating system's privacy settings, or another application that is already using the microphone. Check those three in that order.

How do you confirm the microphone is the problem?

  • If the other party cannot hear you but you can hear them, the issue is likely one-way audio rather than a poor network connection.
  • If microphone access is blocked, your browser may display a crossed-out microphone icon in the address bar.
  • If callers can hear you from another device, the device you started on is likely the cause.

How do you check the browser permission for Calilio?

  • With the Calilio tab open, click the site information icon on the left side of the address bar.
  • Locate the microphone permission and set it to "Allow" for the Calilio site.
  • Reload the page after changing the permission, as the new setting won't apply to a call that's already in progress.

For the full path through Chrome settings, see How to enable the microphone on Chrome.

How do you check your operating system's privacy settings?

  • Windows includes a microphone privacy setting that can block microphone access for all browsers, regardless of individual site permissions.
  • macOS grants microphone access to each application separately, so your browser needs a permission of its own.
  • On mobile devices, ensure the Calilio mobile app has microphone permission enabled in your device settings.

Is another application using the microphone?

  • A video meeting, a recording application, or another browser tab may hold the microphone and prevent Calilio from using it.
  • Close those applications and browser tabs, then reload the Calilio web app.
  • Bluetooth headsets may appear as a separate microphone device, so select the device you speak into.

Why did the microphone work yesterday and not today?

Microphone permissions can reset without you changing them. Common causes include a browser update, cleared site data, a new browser profile, a change to your device settings, or a switch to a different audio device. Any of these may require you to grant microphone permission again.

Can my workspace administrator unblock the microphone for me?

No. Microphone permissions are controlled locally on your device, so your workspace administrator cannot change them for you. Workspace administrators manage users and phone numbers in your workspace, while microphone access stays with your device and your browser.

  • On managed work computers, your organization's IT policies may block microphone access. In such cases, you'll need to contact your IT administrator.
  • Test a call in a second browser to tell a device-wide block apart from a single browser setting.
