Why Is My Browser Asking for Microphone Permission?

Your browser is asking for microphone permission because no website can use your microphone without your consent. Calilio places calls through your browser, so it needs that permission. Allow access once, and your browser remembers the setting. If you blocked the prompt earlier, change it in your browser settings.

What is the microphone prompt asking for?

  • Your browser, not Calilio, controls access to your microphone, and it asks for permission separately for each site.
  • Granting permission allows the Calilio web app to use your microphone during calls. The permission by itself does not record anything.
  • Your browser remembers this setting, so you won't be prompted again unless the permission is reset.

How do you allow the microphone when the prompt appears?

  • When prompted, select "Allow" to grant microphone access.
  • If you dismissed the prompt by accident, start another call to make it appear again.
  • After granting permission, reload the browser tab so the new setting applies.

How do you change a blocked microphone permission in Chrome?

  • Open the Chrome menu from the three dots at the top right, then open "Settings".

  • Go to "Privacy and security", then "Site settings", then "Microphone".

  • Find the Calilio site in the list and set its microphone permission to "Allow".

  • For a faster route, click the site information icon at the left of the address bar while Calilio is open, and set the microphone permission there.

How do you change a blocked microphone permission in Microsoft Edge?

  • Open the Edge menu, then "Settings", then "Cookies and site permissions".
  • Open "Microphone", then find the Calilio site in the blocked list.
  • Change the permission to "Allow", then reload the browser tab.

Why does my browser ask again after I allowed it?

Microphone permissions are saved for each website within your browser profile. If you clear site data, use a private browsing window, switch browser profiles, or use a different computer, your browser may ask for permission again.

What happens on a call without the permission?

  • The call will still connect, and you'll be able to hear the other party normally.
  • However, the other party won't be able to hear your voice, because your microphone is blocked.
  • After granting permission, reload the page and place a test call to confirm that your microphone is working before you call anyone else.

Do I need this on the mobile app?

No. On the Calilio mobile app, microphone access is managed through your device's app permission settings rather than through a browser.
