# How to Search Conversations in Calilio?

Calilio provides two controls for searching conversations. To find a conversation, open a number's inbox from the NUMBERS list in the sidebar, then type in the Find conversation box above the list. To search inside a conversation you already have open, click the Search icon in the conversation header.

## Step 1: Open the inbox you want to search

* Click a business number under NUMBERS in the left sidebar.
* Search runs inside a single inbox, so open the business number that holds the conversation you want.

*Click a number under NUMBERS to open its inbox.*

## Step 2: Search the conversation list

* Click the Find conversation box above the conversation list, then type what you are looking for.
* Use the OPEN and CLOSED toggle to choose which list is on screen.
* Use the dropdown labeled ALL to set the call type.
* If the search returns no results, set the dropdown to ALL, switch the toggle to CLOSED, and search again.

*Type in the Find conversation box above the conversation list.*

## Step 3: Search inside an open conversation

* Click a conversation in the list to open it.
* The conversation header shows five icons: Start Call, Mark as Closed, Search, Pin, and General Info.
* Click the Search icon to search inside that conversation rather than across the whole list.

*Click the Search icon in the conversation header.*

## Expected result

* The Find conversation box searches the conversation list of the inbox you have open.
* The Search icon searches inside the conversation you have open.

## What is the difference between search and filters?

The difference is that search matches text you type, while a filter applies a choice you select. Use search when you know the contact or the business number, and use a filter when you want a whole class of items, such as MISSED or VOICEMAIL. The full set of filter options is described in [__Filter your conversations in Calilio__](https://support.calilio.com/en/article/how-to-filter-your-conversations-in-calilio-188rmx4/).

## Where is the search box if you cannot see it?

* The search box is at the top of the conversation list, inside a business number's inbox.
* If you are on the Dashboard, Analytics, Contacts, Power Dialer, or Settings screen, click a business number under NUMBERS first.

## What does the Find conversation box match?

The Find conversation box matches what you type against the conversations in the inbox you have open, and the list filters as you type. Typing part of a phone number is enough to narrow the list, so you don't need the full number. Clearing the box restores the full list.

## Can you search closed conversations?

Yes, you can search closed conversations, one list at a time. The OPEN and CLOSED toggle is above the conversation list, beside the call type dropdown. Switch the toggle to CLOSED and run the same search again.

## Contact Calilio support

If search returns no results for a conversation you can see in the same list, contact our support team with the business number, the exact text you typed, and the state of the OPEN and CLOSED toggle and the call type dropdown at the time.
